Why Empathy Is Key To Social Media Growth and Success

It's always important to look at things from the perspective of your audience, customer, or whoever you are talking to.

I think many people can get so caught up in what they do that they are in completely the wrong perspective and frame of mind.

Have you ever been caught using terminology in your expertise to someone who has no idea what you're talking about?

Let me give you my own example of remembering to speak in the language of your audience:

I talk to many people about social media and Youtube.

It comes up fairly frequently since it is so common in popular culture.

But you can get so caught up in it (internet people call this circle-jerking or over-analysis) that you're assuming the person you're talking to already knows about so many things they actually don't.

I have found that when the average person off the street or average American talks to me about Youtube, they know very little about it other than that they occasionally watch funny videos if they have the time.

They don't know about the subscribe button.

They don't know how to like or dislike a video.

They don't know that people can make money on Youtube or how.

They don't know how vast Youtube is.

They don't know there's thousands of Youtubers with millions of followers.

They don't know what a description is.

It's crazy but true. You tend to forget this.

Don't believe me?

Here's hosts on the Today Show asking Pewdiepie, how has 42+ million subscribers on Youtube, "How do you make money?" They were completely confused how he makes money.
