Why is Empathetic Leadership such a buzz word right now...

...and ways to increase it!

Firstly, empathetic leadership is something that isn't optional anymore - it's a MUST have. Especially the last years throughout the pandemic we have seen huge shifts around mental wellness and new expectations in the work place.

So let's look at what it is and then ways to increase it!?

Empathetic leadership is a leadership style that focuses on understanding and connecting with the emotions and perspectives of the people being led. It is the ability to put oneself in the shoes of others and to understand and share their emotions, thoughts, and experiences.

Empathetic leaders are able to build trust and strong relationships with their team members by showing genuine interest in their wellbeing and growth. They are able to create a positive work environment where everyone feels valued and respected.

Key benefits of empathetic leadership:

It can lead to higher job satisfaction and employee engagement.

When team members feel that their leader truly cares about them and their development, they are more likely to feel motivated and invested in their work.

This can lead to increased productivity, creativity, and overall performance.

Empathetic leaders are also more effective at managing conflict and resolving issues within their team. They are able to understand and address the root cause of a problem, rather than just treating the symptoms. This leads to more effective and lasting solutions.

What is it NOT?

It is?not just about being nice or supportive.

It is about being a proactive leader who is able to anticipate the needs of their team and take action to address them.

This requires a high level of emotional intelligence and self-awareness.

How to become an Empathetic leader?

To become an empathetic leader, one must be willing to

1. actively listen to others

2. be open to feedback

3. continuously work on understanding own emotions

4. adapt in leading different personalities and work styles

Overall, empathetic leadership is a valuable leadership style that can lead to positive outcomes for both the leader and the team members.

It is about creating a culture of trust, respect, and support that allows everyone to reach their full potential.
