WHY THE EMERGENCE OF ELECTRIC CARS WILL HAVE A VERY NEGATIVE IMPACT ON THE BUSINESS OF CAR REPAIRERS, WORKSHOPS AND GARAGES
According to a study by Roland Berger and Clepa, electric vehicle maintenance could reduce spare parts purchases by 30%, and by 2040, automotive suppliers could see their spare parts sales fall by 13% to 17% compared with 2019 sales, and indirectly the customers who buy these parts from them, namely automotive repairers, workshops and garages.
What's more, since electric cars require around 30% less maintenance and repairs than combustion cars, this means that demand for repair services will fall proportionately, another source of great concern for these workshops.
The only good news for the sector is that demand for suspensions and tires may increase, due to the greater weight of electric vehicles, which accelerates wear.
The transition to electric vehicles is therefore a major challenge for these businesses: automotive repairers, workshops and garages will either have to adapt to this new reality by training in the new technologies and offering services adapted to electric vehicles, which requires significant investments in training and equipment, or offer services that can offset this expected drop in sales, such as offering used vehicles for sale.
