Why embrace meritocracy

Why embrace meritocracy

According to Michael Reeves, the idea of a Meritocracy first came to the world through the mind of the Asian philosopher Confucius, who stated that in order to effectively protect the governments of the future from corruption, government agencies and bureaucracies should be made open only to those who have passed a certain set of specific and highly rigorous examinations in order to demonstrate the existence of their abilities.

The Qin Dynasty, and the Han after it both relied on this philosophy to maintain their sprawling empires, as they recognized that people who actually had to work for their positions of power were less likely to lay waste to them (allow corruption to flourish). They created a set of civil service examinations all government members must pass. After the fall of both empires, a 9 rank system was established during the 3 Kingdoms period, basically a variation of the Qin-Han Civil Service system.

Celebrating meritocracy is one of the things that gives me the most joy. It also serves our mission of being an agent of change to the world through our work. Meritocracy not only ensures effectiveness of organizations, it also maximizes the greater good delivered by organizations. On this date I am happy to celebrate the success and recognition of 3 of my partners, Gabriela Miraglia - promoted to Vice President, Rodrigo Boscariol - promoted to Vice President, and Vinícius Vazquez - promoted to Director. I am anxious to see the new milestones this outstanding team will build next. Congratulations!
