Why not embrace imperfection?

Why not embrace imperfection?

For our next ‘Why Not?’ Wednesday series, we’ll be focusing on perfectionism.

At first, many people think a perfectionist would make the ideal professional – constantly producing high-quality work, hitting deadlines, and turning up prepared for meetings with colour-coded notes. Yet this isn’t always the case.

There are?two types of perfectionism: (1) adaptive and (2) maladaptive:

  1. Adaptive perfectionists get a high from seeing their intense effort pay off – and can accept that they tried their best and forgive themselves if things go wrong.
  2. By contrast, maladaptive perfectionists burn themselves out trying to reach their own impossibly high standards.?

Luckily, there are ways that you can harness the best parts of your perfectionist tendencies while reducing the damaging side effects. Greater self-awareness will lead to:

  • Better project management
  • Stronger business development
  • Healthier work relationships and a more resilient growth mindset

Keep an eye out each week in June for tips to help chronic perfectionists find the right balance!
