Why Electropolishing?
FILIX Lighting
We design, engineer and manufacture high-quality LED lighting instruments for outdoor and underwater applications.
FILIX will start with the implementation of different processes for?our material finish on the Arpool Iris fixtures in the upcoming days, and in the coming months on all underwater fixtures.
The process will use finely glass blasted + electropolished finish that will give finely structured finish with extremely high anti-corrosive layer.
The reasons for these changes range from time improvement due to material handling in the factory to increase in quality that is expected from an underwater lighting solution specialist.
ELECTROPOLISHING REMOVES A MICROSCOPICALLY PRECISE LAYER OF SURFACE MATERIAL, TO TOLERANCES AS LOW AS +/-.0001″, DEPENDING ON THE ALLOY. ELECTROPOLISHING IS A ONE-STOP PROCESS FOR A MICRO-SMOOTH, ULTRACLEAN, CORROSION AND PATHOGEN-RESISTANT SURFACE FINISH. ELECTROPOLISHING ALSO ELIMINATES THE NEED FOR ADDITIONAL METAL FINISHING PROCESSES LIKE HAND DEBURRING, TUMBLING, PICKLING, AND CLEANING. ELECTROPOLISHING IS EFFECTIVE IN TREATING THE CARBIDE PRECIPITATION CONDITION THAT OCCURS IN THE HEAT-AFFECTED ZONE DURING WELDING. IT ALSO IMPROVES THE CHROME TO IRON RATIO ON THE SURFACE WHICH GREATLY IMPROVES THE CORROSION RESISTANCE. THE ELECTROPOLISHED PART IS LEFT IN A HOMOGENEOUS AND PASSIVE CONDITION WHICH OFFERS SUPERIOR CORROSION RESISTANCE TO CHEMICAL PASSIVATION. HEAVILY CONTAMINATED SURFACES SUCH AS MACHINED PARTS, WELDED OR BRAZED ASSEMBLIES OR OTHER COMPONENTS THAT TYPICALLY RESPOND POORLY TO PASSIVATION ALONE ARE GOOD CANDIDATES FOR ELECTROPOLISHING.
While passivation is useful for removing free iron and contaminants from stainless steel and is more well known, here’s what you should know about electropolishing:

Electropolishing is a one-stop process for a micro-smooth, ultra-clean, corrosion and pathogen-resistant surface finish – with 30 times more corrosion resistance than passivation
