Why Education?
For me, my experience with education has become one of the major deciding factors as to why I chose it as a major and as a future job. Many consider education to be a difficult career with little monetary reward or thanks, but I see it as more than that.
My experience in my high school was transformative for me. I transferred to Whitesburg Christian Academy following my 8th grade year. Soon after, I quickly realized how far behind I was in many important aspects of my education. It took the combined efforts of many teachers to provide me with the necessary information to improve my skills and learn.
Together, these teachers provided me with the skills to not only enter college, but also excel both inside and outside the classroom. In many ways, college is a place of opportunities, but also life-changing decisions. I soon found myself struggling to decide a major, a decision that would influence not only my education, but my future.
Nearing the end of my freshman year, I began volunteering at a local church as a Sunday school teacher. That's when I first experienced what makes teaching great. For the first time, I saw what impact I had in the lives of young students and could see their smiles as they grasp a subject once unknown to them.
Moments like those are what inspired me to enter the field of education. The moment of pure understanding and joy as the information is effortlessly grasped by a student. That is what inspired me to become a teacher.

Despite all the difficulties one will undoubtedly face as a teacher, teachers teach because of the moments like these: where a challenge is finally overcome, a goal is finally reached, or a student's life is transformed for the better. In my classroom, I will always strive to make students the best version of themselves as they can be, because ultimately, that's what I want to do.
Despite all the uncertainty, all the doubt, and all the difficulties, I want to teach to inspire students to be better than they were yesterday. Everyone can think back and imagine a time when they fell short, they couldn't reach their goal, or maybe they never had the chance to.
As a teacher, I want to make the impossible possible.

1 年Love this! I was called to a career in teaching back when I was in your life stage and I haven’t regretted it for one minute.
