WHY A DWI LAWYER?
WHY A DWI LAWYER?
Nearly fifteen (15) years ago, I set out to become the best DWI Lawyer that I could be. Since that time, not a day has gone by that I haven't learned something that has allowed me to better help people charged with DWI. Over the course of fifteen (15) years I have focused, studied and practiced, primarily on the subject matter of DWI. As a result, I've learned that there are volumes of materials, both scientific and legal, that need to be learned. This knowledge, has allowed me to become the best lawyer I could be and to protect and guide those charged with DWI. I take the responsibility very seriously when I am hired to defend someone charged with a DWI.
In doing so, I quickly came to realize that in order to pull this off and master DWI defense, I wouldn't have the time or the money to learn, train, or practice in other areas of the law.
I also came to learn is that the mastery of DWI defense is not a destination, but a journey. The law of DWI defense, is constantly changing and evolving. In addition, the science of DWI prosecution is constantly evolving. Specifically, my goal of mastering DWI defense has caused me to study the science of human behavior, accident reconstruction, forensic toxicology, and other basic sciences involved in DWI prosecution.
SOMETIMES OTHER LAWYER DON'T KNOW, WHAT THEY DON'T KNOW?
Many well-meaning attorneys will tell you they can handle your DWI case, but are they aware of the most recent changes in the DWI law? Are they aware of how field sobriety tests are effectively administered? Are they aware of how fuel cell and infrared breath test machines operate? Do they know what a blood-breath partition ratio is? Do they know anything about forensic toxicology? I don't know whether they know these things or not, and I honestly hope they do. However, what I do know is I have personally spent years traveling all over the nation learning the answer to each of these questions.
Unfortunately, lawyers who don’t exclusively practice in DWI defense, are often unaware of the changes in the DWI laws. Further, they often lack the time, money and other resources necessary to attend training in all of the above-mentioned areas. Unfortunately, they simply don't know, what they don't know.
Over time, I came to learn exactly when and how the Standardized Field Sobriety Testing is reliable, and what can make the breath test machines unreliable. As my interest in DWI defense grew, I found myself traveling the nation for different seminars and educational programs on the topic. Not only that, I have actually gone to factories where breath test machines are made. Further, I have received certifications on how to train other people on field sobriety testing. All of these things have fueled my interest even more in helping people charged with DWI offenses. Each of these things have given me additional resources, tactics and strategies to further assist our clients.
My passion to help people charged with DWI offenses still exists today. People ask me "why help people charged with DWI offenses," and the simple answer is: they are good people. Some may struggle with alcohol addiction; some made a mistake, and some are wrongfully charged. But each client is a human being (just like you and me). I've represented people from all different professions, including doctors, teachers, lawyers and nearly every profession in between. Most of us know someone who is a good person who has been charged with a DWI offense.
Although I've made a career of helping people charged with DWI offenses, I don't advocate or justify drunk driving. My children and I drive on the same roads as you and I want everyone to be safe. However, I am sure you can agree that anyone charged with a DWI also deserves their day in court and their right to be heard.
So, when it comes to hiring a lawyer to defend you on a DWI, I don't believe just any lawyer will do. I have been blessed with the privilege of helping thousands of people charged with DWI, and for that I'm thankful. I believe my knowledge on the topic has helped each of those clients during the course of my career.
Lastly, and most importantly, if you're being investigated for a DWI offense, call an attorney. This article is meant to provide you with some knowledge and general guidelines but should not replace the sound advice of a good attorney who has been told the circumstances of your specific case.
