Although there are numerous festivals in India, Dussehra is regarded as one of the most significant and unique times in Indian culture.
Dussehra is observed for a variety of reasons. One of the biggest reasons is the triumph of Lord Ram over Ravana, Goddess Laxmi's appearance at the Samudra Manthan with a pot of gold; and the lives that King Hima's wife spared for her husband from Lord Yama.
As we know, Indians are particularly fond of yellow metal and purchase gold on auspicious days. It thus goes without saying that purchasing gold on these special occasions makes the goddess Laxmi pleased and happy. There are far too many auspicious days to purchase gold like Akshay Tritiya and Dusshera Laxmi Puja wherein Indians buy even a small quantity of gold to make their homes appropriate for the goddess Laxmi and God Kuber.
During Dussehra, there are certain fortunate times when we can buy gold. It is stated that purchasing gold according to the shubh muhurat brings prosperity, happiness, and wealth into our homes with the blessings of the goddess Laxmi. During Dusshera, the tradition of exchanging Apti leaves has been considered a ritual for ages.
The real reason for exchanging these leaves was that Kausta wanted to gift his master Varantu a guru Dakshina. When the teacher still refused to accept any guru Dakshina, Kausta insisted that he would. Varantu demanded Kausta for 140 million coins in exchange for the 14 sciences he taught him to avoid the dilemma. Kausta desired to give the Guru Dakshina but lacked the necessary funds. He went to King Raghu, known for his richness and philanthropy to the Brahmins. Kausta requested a gift of 140 million gold coins from him.

As King Raghu had just finished a Yaga in which he had distributed all of his wealth to the needy and Brahmins he didn't have anything with him. But he intended to donate the money to Kausta because he couldn't send the Brahmin. King Raghu approached Indra and requested that the gold coins be sent to him. Indra then called Kubera and urged him to rain equivalent to the number of leaves on all the Aapti trees in Raghu's kingdom.?
Kubera rained gold coins on the kingdom of Raghu for each leaf of the Aapti tree. Kausta handed his guru all of the gold coins. The gold coin rain occurred on Dasara, On Dusshera, the leaves of Aapti are exchanged for gold coins, and therefore this day is regarded as one of the lucky days for purchasing gold.?
