Why don't you finish things?

I was listening to a talk by my mindset coach Justin Yule and he brought up some great points about finishing. Justin and his wife Janell have a really good podcast called The Transformation Show.

Are you the type of person who tends to not finish things? Books, TV shows, workouts, projects, or challenges you take on?

Or are you the type of person who has a lot of trouble starting new things?

Both of those situations tend to have the same thing in common. There is an underlying fear there. And it usually gets back to one thing.

I am not enough.

If I don't finish this program, it's not my fault if I don't lose the weight I wanted to it's the program's fault.

If I don't keep going back to that personal trainer it's not my fault I didn't get in shape, it's the trainer's fault.

Don't get me wrong there are lots of bad programs and lots of bad trainers out there. But there is also a lot of fear and insecurity in a lot of us.

I've seen it in myself.

"Well if I don't offer this class, then I won't have to live with the disappointment of no one coming."

"If I don't put this book out there, then I don't have to hear people say they don't like it."

"If I send out this e-mail, people will not like me and unsubscribe."

For some people, this probably sounds crazy! For other people, you are probably nodding your head right now.

Susan Jeffers has a great quote in her book "Feel The Fear And Do It Anyway":

'Often we think 'I'll do it when I am not so afraid'. But in reality, it works the other way around. The "doing it" comes before the fear goes away. The only way to get rid of the fear of doing something is to go out and do it.'

Don't let fear hold you back from achieving the best You possible. You will fail, and you will have hard and uncomfortable times.

But you will also make progress and reach goals you once thought were impossible.
