Why Don't We Ask for the Payslip During the Offer Stage?
At Growens , we believe this approach is not in line with fostering trust, maintaining fairness, and can negatively impact the employer-candidate relationship long before the individual even joins the company. Here the 3 reasons why we don't ask for the payslip to our candidates:
?? Trust is Key: Asking for a payslip implies a lack of trust in the candidate's honesty. Trust is one of our 4 core #values and a fundamental value in any relationship, especially professional ones. When we start a relationship with doubt, we set a tone of mistrust that can be difficult to overcome. This initial skepticism can make candidates feel undervalued and disrespected, leading to a negative perception of the company even before they become part of it.
?? Fairness Matters: Basing the offer on a candidate's current earnings is not a fair practice. From a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (#DEI) perspective, it risks creating discrepancies where individuals with similar skills and experience receive different offers solely based on their previous salary. This reinforces existing wage gaps and perpetuates inequality, undermining the principles of fairness and equal opportunity that are vital to a healthy workplace.

?? Limiting the Offer: By focusing on current salaries, we limit the potential of the offer to merely a small, enticing increment rather than presenting the maximum value the company is willing to pay for the skills and experience needed. This not only undermines the candidate's worth but also risks losing top #talent who might feel the offer doesn’t truly reflect their value or the company's appreciation of their potential. We do think this is going to limit the increase in our talent density as well.
Conclusion: Instead of fixating on current salaries, let’s focus on what the candidate can bring to the table and what the company is willing to invest to secure those skills (so called budget!). This approach not only aligns with the values of trust and fairness but also ensures we make competitive offers that truly reflect the worth of the talent we aim to attract. Let’s build relationships on #trust, #equity, and #value from the very beginning.
