Why They Don't Reply To Your E-Mails

Why They Don't Reply To Your E-Mails

You get 2-5 seconds to strike a great first impression with someone, yet some people think they have all the time in the world to get to the point and they do a bad job of it 'to boot'.

As I read through the countless messages soliciting my business, it’s a wonder these people make any money with their poorly worded messages and disjointed explanations. Their grammar, vocabulary, and sentence structure leave much to be desired, and it is doing them more harm than good.

Keep in mind that when you communicate with prospects, or anyone for that matter, that you cannot communicate in text in the same manner in which you speak. Text messages do not transpose accurately because there is no included emotion, tonality and voice inflection that gives your message the meaning (spice) it needs to instantly capture people’s attention and encourage them to read on.

So… DON’T write the same way you speak to someone!

Here below is a message I received that demonstrates the problem with sending text messages that try to mimic speech. There are several “Taboos” and I’d like you to find them. Perhaps there are some “Taboos" in my post - tell me - I can handle it :)

In your professional opinion - what is ‘wrong’ about this message and what improvements would you suggest? Starting from the subject header and working your way down through the body of the message - where does this "painfully simple” message go wrong?  To your success… Pete -

Re: Quick Call

Hi Pete,

I gather that you're busy, so I wanted to send a painfully simple email:

A. Yes, I have 15 minutes next week. Let's schedule a call.

B. Too busy right now. Reach back out next month.

C. I'm not the right contact, but I'll CC you.

D. No need to chat. We don't need your services.

Please let me know which letter it is, and I'd be happy to take the appropriate steps (I don't want to take up space in your inbox if you're not interested).

I have attached my previous message below for your reference.

We all know it takes money to make money, and it can be almost impossible to get the financing you need from banks and investors these days.

My company, Finance America, understands the financial pressure of doing business today and our goal is to help businesses like yours flourish. We provide companies with fast approvals and good terms. You'll get your money within 48 hours of approval, and ~90% of our applicants qualify! Would you have any interest in a line of credit, or funding at this time or in the near future?

Just reply "YES" to find out how you can get the money you need with a merchant cash advance (and how much you can get). Best Regards, Sherry Whatshername --CEO Suite 205, Minneapolis, MN 55414
