Why Doing Your Best Is More Important Than Being The Best

“Doing your best is more important than being the best” - Zig Ziglar
Keeping in the swing of things after a full year of intermittent lockdowns is turning into a real challenge for many people. Working from home, without anything fun to plan or look forward to, is really not easy. I don't think I''m alone in saying that this really sucks.
While I’d hate to call this the ‘new normal’ it is definitely the ‘for now’ normal without any significant change in sight. So we’re going to have to get on with it. But the question is how?
While there’s plenty of advice online and an endless stream of experts on TV suggesting how we should deal with it and what we should be doing, I think the only solution that is going to work is ‘do what you can’.
If you can get the majority of your work projects done on time and to a decent enough standard then that's fine.
If you can cook a healthy dinner from scratch every day, then that’s fantastic, but a takeaway or a frozen pizza isn’t going to do any harm, if you just can’t find the time or inclination.
If you manage to have your floors washed and dishes done before you go to bed every night then good for you, but if you don’t have the energy to get off the couch, don’t worry (it’s not like you’ve any visitors dropping in to judge you anyway).
If you are finding it a struggle to get everything done remember to ask for help wherever possible, with colleagues at work or with your partner or older children at home (chores count as part of home schooling right?).
Hopefully things will start getting back to normal, as the vaccine continues to be rolled out, but for now, remember all you can do is your best. So give yourself a break, take a deep breath and (to quote that great philosopher Dory) just keep swimming.
Stay safe, stay home and (try to) stay sane.
Be good to yourself,
Michelle xx

4 年I love the your labeling of our ‘for now’ normal Michelle O Connor. This is more honest but also more hopeful than "the new normal". Great!

4 年Lovely Michelle. I think I’ll swop giving the floors a quick once over at 6pm and have a nice G&T instead!
