It's bargain time for Black Friday, but actually shops, coffee bars or even cinemas try to tempt you all year round with all kinds of 'discounts' or tricks. They try to influence your financial choices without you even realizing it. Consumer psychologist Patrick Wessels therefore shares five commonly used tricks to prevent you from spending too much money.
Wessels is also sometimes influenced by marketing tricks of shops: “If you put me in a shopping street on a busy Saturday afternoon, with stimuli from sound and images, then I am also susceptible. Because then it is more difficult for me to think rationally about a purchase. In retrospect, I realize that I fell for it. Anyone can be seduced, but it is good to know how you are being played.”
1. Omit Euro sign
At a coffee chain you can see on the board above the counter what you can order, and at the end of the line, for example, it says 5 instead of 5 euros. Why are they doing that? “A euro sign is an association with money,” explains Wessels.?---> Continues
