"Why does it stop in the trailer?"
This was the morning question from our HT team.
These guys are not ordinary workers. Having prior work experience in other areas of fresh produce before trailer sanitation at Healthy Trailer LLC, they know that from harvest through processing, proper cleaning and sanitizing is a priority.
Mark’s question was spot on.
Why are fresh produce companies and their customers who require high levels of sanitation in the field and through the processing plant settling for improperly cleaned trailers?
“It’s like eating on a dirty plate! Just because it looks clean doesn’t mean it is clean.”
Mark, Jesus, Chris and Josh have been operating Healthy Trailer LLC in Yuma for about four weeks. They have seen all sorts of trailers that look like they may be clean, but when they ask the drivers when they had a prior washout, many can’t say for sure.
Something else that makes our team scratch their heads is the frequency of drivers they see using brooms and leaf blowers to prep their trailers for a load of fresh lettuce.
Where has that broom been? What was swept or blown from one part of the trailer to another? These drivers may have had their one hour FDA awareness training, but if this is their ‘best practice’ then who knows what else is riding with their loads of fresh produce.
Are you shipping or receiving product out of Yuma this holiday season? You may want to check in with your carriers to make sure their drivers are choosing proper trailer sanitation for your produce.
