Why does solar light inventory require regular maintenance?

Solar lights require periodic charge and discharge maintenance after being stored for several months to maintain their performance and extend their lifespan. Here are the main reasons:
1. Prevent Over-Discharge
· Self-Discharge Phenomenon: LiFePO4 batteries naturally undergo slight self-discharge during storage, even though their self-discharge rate is relatively low (typically 1-2% per month). If left uncharged for an extended period, the battery's charge level may drop below its minimum safe voltage, leading to over-discharge.
· Impact of Over-Discharge: Over-discharge can cause irreversible chemical reactions within the battery, reducing its capacity or rendering it unable to recharge.
2. Activate Electrode Materials
· Electrode Passivation: Prolonged storage can result in passivation layers forming on the surface of the battery's active electrode materials (e.g., excessive growth of the SEI layer), which may decrease charging and discharging efficiency. Periodic charging and discharging can reactivate the electrode materials and stabilize battery performance.
3. Balance Cell Voltage
· In a battery pack, variations among individual cells due to manufacturing or storage conditions can lead to voltage imbalances. Periodic charge-discharge cycles allow the Battery Management System (BMS)?to equalize the voltage of each cell, improving the longevity of the pack.
4. Prevent Electrolyte Stratification
· Long-term static storage can cause the electrolyte components to stratify, affecting ion conductivity within the battery. Regular charging and discharging help mix the electrolyte and prevent stratification.
Maintenance Guidelines
· Storage Charge Level: Store the battery with a charge level of 30%-50% to avoid overcharging or over-discharging.

· Frequency of Charge/Discharge: Perform a full charge and discharge cycle every 3-6 months (one full charge and one full discharge).
· Storage Conditions: Maintain a storage temperature between 10°C and 25°C, avoiding extreme heat or cold.
