Why do some marriages fail and others survive? Why do some married couples decide on divorce? What makes it so hard to continue living a committed life and staying married?
I work with couples everyday to help transform marriages. This is what I have found in my experience of over 15 years working with couples.
Here are some reasons why marriages fail:
- Holding Grudges. Built up resentment and grudges about past mistakes and transgressions will ruin a marriage. It piles up and the partner who has been wronged no longer feels satisfied or wants to stay committed.
2. Financial Problems. Financial problems are one of the MAIN reasons why relationships fails. From the stress of paying the bills to wasting money on things that are unnecessary, these issues can lead to divorce. Some married couples forget that as they share their lives together, they also share their financial responsibilities.
3. Unrealistic Expectations. We all know how it feels when something does not meet our expectations. However, expecting too much from your partner can lead to dissatisfaction, but it also set your partner up for failure.
4. You don’t make adjustments. Remember that marriage is a give and take process. Marriage is a partnership that requires compromise. Couples that are unwilling to bend are often vulnerable to disconnect.
5. Involving other people. Your marriage is between you and your partner. No one can fix it other than the two of you. You can seek support to help you resolve issues in your marriage but in the end it is your responsibility! Your family, parents, and friends cannot solve your marriage problems. Be mindful of how you involve others.
