Shout out to Timothy Owen . My conversation I had with him during his Wisdom Live session titled, "Knowingness in its Ultimate State is No Knowingness," sparked the thoughts that reminded me of the title of this week's My Great Aunt EDNA newsletter and audio short.

Have you ever been presented with an option to make a move towards a new initiative in your life or profession, but the option makes absolutely NO logical sense to you? It has happened to me multiple times in my life, and I am assuming that it is the same for you. Why do we even entertain these outlandish thoughts? The answer is usually because experience has taught us that when our spirit prompts us to do things that make no sense to us, it is usually the best option to take.

Think back to the last major decision that you had to make, and the steps that you took to make that decision.? Sometimes, it feels as if paralysis has set in, and you cannot seem to move in any one direction.? Anxiety may show up, and you spend sleepless nights staring at the ceiling and contemplating your options.

Then, one magical day, you decide to create the almighty “Pros and Cons,” list.? Eureka!? This magical list will make everything clear, right?? Once this magical list is created, the heavens will part, and you will have your answer!? The most logical reason MUST be to take the road where the Pros drastically outweigh the Cons.? Then, once you have told everyone about your obvious and clear decision, your spirit will not allow you move forward.? Damn.

From an early age, we are taught logic and absolutes through various means.? In preschool, we learn that after A, comes B.? After 1, comes 2.? “First comes love, then comes marriage, then comes the baby in the baby carriage.”? Therefore, when our spirit is compelling us to make moves that do not make logical sense to our own understanding, we struggle.

As many leaders can attest to, most of us have taken roads and roles that made absolutely no sense to our logical understanding at the time, that have led us into the leadership roles that we currently occupy. ?It is the beauty of “no knowingness,” as T. Bert Owens stated, that allows leaders to understand that when you move in that direction, you actually “know” something about life; when it does not make sense, and you do not know all the answers, it is likely to be the right decision to make.

You would think the next time we are faced with a decision with multiple options, and we have had previous experience with such circumstances, we would immediately know how to listen to our spirit to make the right decision.? So why is it that we go through the exact same anxiety, fear, and “pros and cons” routine again?? The reason is, we have not fully matured into believing that “knowing,” is “not knowing.”?

Are there any stuck nieces and nephews of My Great Aunt EDNA out there?? Give yourself some grace, develop the muscle of faith, and choose the option that your spirit is compelling you to make that makes no sense.? You will thank yourself for it later.
