BUT WHY DOES HEALING FROM BURNOUT TAKE SO MUCH TIME?
I get it. You're frustrated.
You've done the self care, maybe taken time off work, prioritized your mental health...and yet...
You STILL feel burnt out.
*internal scream!*
If you know my story, you know that at one point, I was suffering from burnout in a pretty severe way many years ago. I was hijacked daily by panic attacks. The creativity was sucked right out of me and the only energy I had after work was to lay down on the couch and watch the clock pass time as I binged TV.?
I was in survival mode.?
My hair began falling out.?
The stress had gotten so bad for me that I couldn’t eat.?
My friends started telling me I was looking too skinny.
So it's no surprise to anyone (myself included) that it took me quite a while to heal. It was *not* an overnight process.??
In working with people, I've found that many ask the same question along their journey...
But WHY is it taking me so long to heal?
I can hear the frustration and defeat in their voice.
Here's the deal. Burnout is so incredibly common for many people in today's fast-paced world. It can leave us feeling exhausted, overwhelmed, and emotionally drained. While it's *absolutely* possible to recover from burnout, it's important to understand that healing from burnout takes time, energy, and resources.
In this article, we will explore why healing from burnout takes so much time and what you can do to support your healing journey.
In a recent survey, 76% of American employees reported feeling burnt out at least some of the time. (Source: Deloitte)
Healing from burnout takes time, energy, and resources.
Burnout is a complex phenomenon that affects multiple aspects of our lives, including our physical, emotional, and mental well-being. Recovering from burnout involves taking care of these aspects of ourselves, which requires time, energy, and resources.
It's important to recognize that healing from burnout is not a quick fix, and it requires a sustained effort over time.
Healing from burnout doesn’t happen overnight.
Burnout is not something that happens overnight, and it's not something that can be fixed overnight either. Recovery from burnout is a process that involves making changes to our lifestyles and behaviors, which takes time to implement and integrate into our lives.
Healing from burnout is like peeling back layers of an onion.
Healing from burnout is like peeling back layers of an onion. Each layer represents a different aspect of our lives that we need to address and heal. As we peel back each layer, we unlock a new level of healing that we are able to do. This process is gradual and requires patience, persistence, and self-compassion.
Healing from burnout is like peeling back layers of an onion: We must continue to unlock new levels of healing as we go.
As we address each layer of our burnout, we are able to unlock new levels of healing. This allows us to make progress towards recovery and develop new coping mechanisms and strategies to support our well-being.
You didn’t end up burnt out overnight.
It's important to remember that burnout is not a one-time event, but rather a gradual process that happens over time. This means that healing from burnout will also take time. It's important to be patient with yourself and to recognize that recovery is a journey, not a destination.
Your body must replenish itself, and this takes time.
Burnout can have a significant impact on our physical health, including our immune system, energy levels, and overall well-being. To recover from burnout, our bodies need time to rest and replenish themselves. This means taking time to prioritize sleep, nutrition, and self-care... and not just a little bit.
You must learn new strategies and skills.
Recovering from burnout requires learning new strategies and skills to manage stress, set boundaries, and prioritize self-care. Simply changing your job or taking some time off will not fix your burnout symptoms. You have to create an entirely new way of being, and this always takes time.
Just changing your job or taking some time off will not fix your burnout symptoms. You have to create an entirely new way of being, and this always takes time.
To support your recovery from burnout, it's important to work with a professional who can help you develop a personalized plan for healing. This may involve therapy, coaching, or other forms of support that can help you navigate the challenges of recovery and develop new coping mechanisms.
I know struggling with burnout is not a fun place to be. It takes time to uncover the different layers of healing, replenish your body, and learn new strategies and skills. But the good news is this: You can absolutely heal, feel well, and create the impact you wish to create in the world in both your work and at home.
With the right tools, you can support your healing journey and develop a new way of being that prioritizes your well-being.
