Why does everyone need a coach?

Why does everyone need a coach?

This week alone I have been tagged in articles and read about how everyone from executives to parents are now finding that coaches are making their lives better.

The growth of the coaching market isn't slowing, although it does seem to be maturing with people becoming more picky shoppers and wanting to know credentials, training and results before they book a call and check in on the all-important rapport and trust.

Put simply the demand for coaching is driven by the fact that it works. In fact, there is some evidence that coaching is an effective mental health and well-being intervention supporting those before they are displaying symptoms.

In my own experience coaching helped me tackle a job which I felt underprepared for 11 years ago as a Deputy Head Teacher, it has helped me to be happier and more relaxed and to work through running two businesses and my own leadership journey.

Coaching helps you to get perspective and then empowers you to make lasting change. For me, great coaching holds up that mirror that you usually avoid looking in and you find the answers you have been seeking.

It can be challenging and tough: you need to do the work. Great coaches have that gift of holding the space for you without judgement and giving you the time you need to work through the deeper "stuff".

I love the way that coaching helps you to look at possibility. When you have had a bad day or week sitting down with a coach and exploring how you can move towards your desires can be so much more invigorating than sitting festering on the fact you have a great, big obstacle you can't stop thinking about! and when you are moving towards those desires in your thoughts and emotions you often stumble across that way to move past the obstacle (or smash it to pieces!)

As more and more people realise the power and the science behind coaching and it's lasting impact I can see it becoming an essential skill for everyone from leaders to teachers to parents.

And, with the added demand for coaching we know highly trained and qualified coaches are in demand. This is one of the reasons I set up Optimus Coach Academy as I believe that the market is only going to grow. I hear it so often, I don't need a coach I have experience and skills that make me a great leader. I do wonder sometime is this part of a fixed mindset? A belief you are already there and you have nothing else to learn or explore. For me I have experienced and coached others to continue to grow and be the best version of themselves. Would they get there without a coach? Maybe, I just know for me it is so much easier and fun to know I have my coach in my back pocket.
