Why do you work?
Dr. Howard Dover
I change the world everyday by coaching individuals, teams, and companies on how to solve the Sales Innovation Paradox.
I feel inspired by a conversation I had earlier this week and it helped me remember why sales is a wonderful profession! I was visiting with a young professional who has goals and aspirations. She has moved from eastern Europe to London to pursue those goals. Upon arriving in London and getting her first job in sales, she realized that sales can open the door to all that she wants to achieve and have in life. I have to admit, I am inspired by her story and her actions.
Recently I have had the opportunity to visit with several young people who know what they want out of life. One wants to open their own dance studio one day and take care of their parents, another wants to move to another country to get a better life, the other wants to become an actress in L.A. What do they all have in common, they are using sales as a means to achieve their objectives.
Sales is one of the few professions that allows us to dream about what we want to have in our lives and then go work, to make it happen! We use our jobs in sales to obtain what we want out of life, to build the future we desire. This is so powerful and motivating! Especially when we live in free societies and countries that allow us to make these choices and then go work to make it so!
When I interview students in the next few days, at the start of Fall boot camp, I will ask them to describe their 10 year self to me. Most will start by saying the professional life they hope to have. Inevitably, I will stop them and ask them to describe WHO they will be and how they want to LIVE! In contemporary thought I am asking them, "What is your WHY?"
What are you working towards? Why do you go to work every day? I invite you and me to think deeper about this. I am inspired by those who have a vision and are striving to make their dream a reality.
Sales is the greatest profession one can ever choose. You are paid based on your efforts and your skills. Take time to make sure your skills match your determined effort and you will witness success.
In my title, I state that I get to change the world everyday. How? I get to visit with, learn with, and coach the future sales professionals and sales leaders so that we can all achieve our individual dreams. That is one thing that gets me excited every day. I know my efforts lead to dreams coming true, lives being altered, and economies moving forward!
Thank you to all my Muses out there who inspire me to become better and achieve greater. I invite everyone to join the movement to move the economy forward. Let's support each other to make the world a better place and let's celebrate achievement in ourselves and others. Let's cheer each other on to make a difference in our current world.
Dare to Dream and support others to make their dreams come true!

4 年I couldn't agree more, sales is the only career where you're only truly limited by your own efforts. There is no ceiling but there is certainly a floor in sales and I think it's great to put that into perspective at times. Those who are hungry will always find success, just remember that it's a marathon and not a sprint. :)
