Why Do You Boast?

“For who makes you different from anyone else? What do you have that you did not receive? And if you did receive it, why do you boast as though you did not?” ~1 Corinthians 4:7
In this verse, Paul is addressing the Corinthians, who are struggling with being prideful. They are comparing themselves to each other as to who has more gifts. Sound familiar! How many times a week do you compare yourself to your friend, a stranger, a co-worker, etc.? Whether it is material possessions, education, children’s accomplishments, or physical beauty, we must remember that we did not accomplish any of this on our own. The Lord God decided to bless us with these things. Do you think He blessed you because He likes you better than His other children? He chooses to bless us because He desires us to give Him the glory. Use the blessings God has given you to sow into the lives of other people – not to make yourself look good.
Prayer
Lord, why You choose to bless us so abundantly is sometimes hard to comprehend. Please help me to remember that all good things come from You and that You chose to give them to me so that I may glorify You. Thank You for the enjoyment of these blessings. I will always strive to use them to serve You. In the Name of Jesus, the Christ, we pray. Amen. Amen. Amen.
