Why Do We Struggle To Speak From The Soul?

Why Do We Struggle To Speak From The Soul?

Why do we struggle to speak from the soul?

  • Because it's hard.
  • Because we are afraid.
  • Because speaking, naming, shining light into the darkness where our truth lies and has not yet been revealed, is terrifying.

We struggle to speak from the soul because oftentimes we have neglected our soul. And when we move to speak from it, we have trouble finding it or interpreting what it needs us to communicate.

The Imperative of Soul-Speaking

But doing so is imperative. It is imperative because whether or not you choose to literally speak to another person or persons, what is in your soul?

Failing to go on the quest to discover and interpret your soul's message is a critical component of living a fulfilled life.

Because, aptly put by Carl Jung, “until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate.”

Getting to Truth Faster

“Get to truth faster.”

This phrase appeared in my mind during one of my 2 dozen guided ketamine trips I took beginning October 2022.

When I say "get to truth faster," speaking from the soul is what I mean.

(We’ll go deeper on “truth” soon)

Why? Because the messages of your soul are:

  • Concentrated
  • Potent
  • Concise in a single sentence or word
  • Undiluted

A message from the soul contains a lifetime of feeling, experience and perspective.

The Cost of Not Speaking from the Soul

If we fail to reveal, speak, discover truth about ourselves to ourselves, we are, until that point, wandering in the darkness of lives, lies about:

  • Who we really are
  • What we really want
  • What we will and will not stand for
  • How we really see others
  • What we want for them

The Fear of Soul-Speaking

Even if you have access to and can interpret your messages from the soul, it can be scary to do that work of speaking those things to yourself.

And even with that access and ability to interpret and the ability to speak to yourself, it is a terrifying prospect, not just at first, but always to speak from your soul to another person.

Why? Because to speak from your soul is to say what you deeply believe to the core of your being. And should somebody reject that, then it is not a rejection of an idea or a thought, but of your very essence.

Unlearning the Unnatural

It's also difficult to speak from the soul because there is so much that is unnatural that we must unlearn. When we are young, before life has tried to tame us and box us in, we would readily and enthusiastically venture forth any truth, observation, feeling, perspective.

One of the ways this is squashed out of us, that chokes off our ability to speak from the soul, is the belief that:

Our truth is not sufficient

It somehow needs to be more profound than it is

It needs to have more words

We are not yet qualified to own this truth

And so we then perpetuate this cycle, tightening the grip that our truth, as it is, is insufficient and weak, and that we are not yet qualified to speak it.

How to Begin Speaking from the Soul

So how does a person begin the process of speaking from the soul?

1. Have the courage to write or speak to yourself what you are afraid to name.

2. Identify your emotions regarding individuals or situations.

3. Release these emotions to create capacity for clarity.

4. Articulate the story you're telling yourself about the situation.

5. Pick apart that story to determine whether it's actually true. Provide evidence.

6. Identify what you really want for yourself in this situation.

7. Extract a universal principle from the experience.

This process taps into both our minds and hearts. It trains you to:

  • Become aware of what's happening in each
  • Understand how these events inform and influence one another
  • Become aware of emotions without identifying with them
  • Separate emotions from thoughts
  • See thoughts as just thoughts, not reality

The Power of Practice

The more courage you have to keep that pen moving, the more you train yourself to speak from your soul.

When you prompt yourself with the question, "What do I want?", you will be able to answer in an increasingly concise, potent and concentrated manner.

The Result

When it's time to speak from your soul, you will:

  • Be well-trained in all aspects required
  • Not ramble incoherently
  • Speak in a simple, comprehensible, inarguable manner

Inevitably, your body and voice will automatically reflect the deep conviction you hold regarding what your soul has to say.

The Art of Soul-Speaking

It is less about the words that you use and more about how you use them, how you say them, that sways people to your cause.

Speaking from the soul requires:

  • Courage
  • Intellect
  • Vulnerability
  • Self-awareness

At the highest levels, as with all matters, there is tremendous risk and also tremendous reward.

There is an incalculable cost of doing nothing to accelerate your journey toward the capacity to speak from your soul.
