Why do we need to never quit learning?
As a young man, my mother invested in the World Book encyclopedia set for us. However I was the one that read them incessantly growing up. I would spend lots of time in the house reading the entries in the volumes, absorbing the knowledge contained in them.
Each year, the publisher would send us a Year Book of curated material of the significant events that happened that year to add to the foundational knowledge that was in the encyclopedia volumes.
As I grew up, for whatever reason, the year books stopped coming. Not sure why they did exactly, but perhaps one reason is so many things happened in the span of a year of significance that those that curated the material couldn’t agree on what to include. Or perhaps advances in technology happened that rendered a printed version unnecessary or economically impossible.
Today, we face the same question. With web sites, social media, instant messaging, cable news, radio, and other ways of interfacing with knowledge, we need to ask ourselves WHY do we need to never quit learning?
There are multiple reasons for us to learn new ideas, new ways of doing things, so each of us will have different answers to this question. For me, the need to never quit learning is the same as it was back in my youth.
To understand my own life purpose. WHY was I created? WHY am I here at this precise moment of time?
To pursue knowledge is to learn more about ourselves. To help us grow and conversely to provide a good and highly regarded example unto those around us.
Until next week.

6 个月Another great post, as always! My parents spent quite a bit of money on a set of World Book Encyclopedia for our family (though I was really main person who read them). I think that as parents they tired of answering my questions of “why?” ?? That knowledge and education has nourished and sustained me for my entire life, and I am extremely blessed to have those books in my life!
