Why Do We Fear Change, When It’s the One Thing That Makes Us Grow?
Let’s be honest, most of us fear change. Even when we know we need it.
We stay in jobs that drain us. We hold onto relationships that no longer serve us. We resist making the bold moves we know deep down will push us forward. Why? Because the unknown is scary. Because change feels risky. Because staying put feels safe.
But here’s the brutal truth: every major breakthrough in your life has come from change.
Think about it. The moment you switched careers, ended that relationship, moved to a new city or country, wasn’t it terrifying at first? But now, looking back, wasn’t it one of the greatest growth moments of your life?
Why Do We Fear Change So Much?
1?? We Crave Certainty Our brains are wired for survival. They love predictability, routine, and stability. Change disrupts that, making us feel vulnerable, even if that change could lead to something better.
2?? We Cling to Identity We attach ourselves to who we were, our job title, our relationships, our routines. Letting go of the old version of ourselves means stepping into the unknown. That’s uncomfortable.
3?? We Fear Failure What if we make the wrong move? What if we regret it? What if things don’t work out? Our minds love worst-case scenarios, but the truth is, failure is rarely as catastrophic as we imagine.

My Story: The Fear That Almost Held Me Back
I’ve faced this fear more times than I can count.
Like the moment three years ago when we left Singapore for Mauritius. I remember standing at the airport, looking terrified, questioning everything (as you can see from the dodgy picture).
I had built a life, a career, and a routine in Singapore. Moving to Mauritius meant stepping into the unknown, new country, new business, new way of living. The doubts were real: What if this doesn’t work? What if I fail? What if I regret it?
But here’s the truth, the day I chose to bet on myself was the day my life changed.
If I had let fear win, I wouldn’t be here. I wouldn’t be building a business I love. I wouldn’t be helping others navigate their own big life changes.
And now, as 2025 unfolds, I can’t help but wonder... is it time for another big leap? Another country, may be Singapore, another challenge, another reinvention?
The idea of change still scares me. But if I’ve learned anything over the years, it’s that the best things in life live on the other side of fear.
So, Here’s My Challenge to You:
Where in your life are you resisting change? What’s the one decision you know deep down would lead to growth, but you’re avoiding?
Because the truth is, you’re never stuck, you’re just scared.
And if you’re scared, that’s a good thing. It means something amazing is waiting on the other side.
Are you ready to stop resisting and start growing? Drop a comment, I’d love to hear your story.
