Why Do We Avoid Strategy?

I haven't come across a business school student yet who doesn't look forward to taking that strategy class that's typically held until their senior year. Sometimes it's even their "capstone" class, depending upon the business school.
My question for you all today is this: Why do we avoid strategy?
I think established founders and family enterprise leaders avoid that annual strategic planning because they treat it like that business plan their suppose to write, some do, but then it's never looked at again. But, strategic planning is really simple.
Start with who is invited to the strategy table. Then long term: our why...and the organization's MVV. Does the vision need to change? We discuss where the economy, industry, and target markets are going over the next several quarters. How do we know this? We end with the who, SMART goals, OKRs, KPIs, tracking tools, and how we discuss all this regularly.
Yes, I really do think it's that simple. To make it simpler, perhaps a facilitator is needed.
What do you think? If we think simpler, is strategy something we should continue to avoid? Drop your comments below.

1 年Unfortunate how many small or "family businesses" have an attitude of "Well we got this far without a plan." and don't plan for success or how to tackle challenges that will surface.
