Why do we afraid of the unknown?

Have you ever tried something new for the first time and felt so proud doing it? When it was actually your biggest fears!

People tend to afraid what they don’t know, about anything, but once they get the courage to explore and discover it, the ice breaks.

I, for once was completely convinced that I will never, EVER scuba dive, as this was my biggest fears, On the other hand, I was very excited to try skydiving as I believe jumping from a plane “for me at least” is less dangerous than scuba diving. Was it maybe because I don’t know how to swim in the first place? “Yes, please laugh !”… This makes sense, doesn't it?.

So, in an unplanned situation, I was one day in Egypt and it happens that one of the activities was scuba diving, and I can see a lot of people around me were excited to do it, I was the only one who wasn't ready. What happened was, it took the instructor 10 minutes to convince me that ” dude it is safe to do it”, and he showed us all how diving equipment work and how safety procedure works. Turns out there was more than one procedure in how you react when you accidentally get water instead of oxygen.

So now, I am in front of the cannon, facing my biggest fears ever, to dive in the water … Then splash! Well, I mean, a mighty splash just occurred!

I just jumped !. In the first 10 to 15 seconds, I forgot that I have to breathe through my mouth ” LoL”, I was completely panicked. Until moments later I realized then calmed down. Well, telling you what I have seen under the water would take me ages to describe, but I tell you, it was completely worth it.

You see? You see How do we afraid the unknown but once we face it we ” break it”?

Well let me tell you something; after that trip, I was seriously thinking and planning to be a certified scuba diver ” no joking”, it was a very exciting experience, especially for something that I wasn't considering doing it in my whole life.

This was an example of how we should face our fears, we normally fear what we don’t know and be conservative, this is a human nature, but sometimes we need to overcome it in order to proceed in our life.

You may apply this in everything you fear, public speaking, diving, trying a new skill, talking to new people, making new friendships and a lot more.

What is worse going to happen? I mean, unless the thing you want to do is ” illegal” then sure don’t do it! But seriously again, what worse is going to happen? Mistake? We actually learn by doing mistakes, success comes after many, many, MANY mistakes and failures. And if you are taking people’s opinions into consideration, believe me, you won’t step a single step towards your goals.

Do what you want, and as they say “Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind.”
