Why Do People Do What They Do?

Why Do People Do What They Do?

I am often asked the above. ?

Indeed, the source of individual behavior can be puzzling.?

The challenge becomes understanding others when their behavior makes no sense at all. You can’t even fathom why they do what they do.?

Someone wise once said to me, “A person’s outward behavior is an inward expression of their own internal inadequacy.”?

That one statement has helped begin to understand the basis of the actions of others. ?

For example, let’s say that a person was told their whole life that they we not capable, that they didn’t know what they were doing. And, they believed it.

That being said, the person could respond in one of two ways: they could believe what others have said and continue to live in that reality, or they could address those opinions by working tirelessly to insure that they were the consummate expert in their field.?

If that were the case, then you could understand why they would always have to be right, and they would not be open to perspectives that would differ from their experience.
