Why Do People Do Something? (1 of 3)

#SunilFridayThought #Friday Thought 81

What kind of question is this? Why do people do something? The answer may be deeply philosophical to outright frivolous depending upon who you ask and what mood they are in.

But, seriously, why do people do 'something'? Why do they not do 'nothing'?

Most people would say that they would not get fed and they cannot support their families if they were to do 'nothing'. OK, I get it. Hypothetically, if you had enough money to support your family and get fed then would you do 'nothing'? Not really, right? You will still do something. It may be traveling, going places, visiting restaurants, reading books, trekking, or watching TV. Can you imagine yourself doing 'nothing'?

The reality is that, no matter what, you will end up doing something - whether you get paid for those activities or not may depend on variety of factors. Certainly you would want to do something!

Quora is a platform where people ask questions and other members respond with their answers. Someone asked a question "What would you do if you had a lot of money?" and many people responded with answers. For the question and answers, see this link. You can go through all the answers - some selfish to some quite altruistic and some in between - none of them talk of doing 'nothing'! All of them talk about doing something! And that 'something' mostly includes doing 'something' outside home. In many cases, that 'something' is to be done with someone or some people.

Similar questions and answers on other platforms reveal exactly the same trend.

With that being the case, whether #pandemic lasts for a few months to a few years, why would staying at home and working on some devices and watching some devices be a 'new normal'? When there is so enormous craving to go outside?

We will explore this interesting topic further in the next two parts. Stay tuned.

Is this a trick question? Doing nothing is also doing something right? ??
