WHY DO OPTIMIZING MY SURROUNDINGS AND IMPROVING MY RELATIONSHIPS PLAY AN IMPORTANT ROLE IN MY WELL-BRING?
In the last article on habits, we examined our relationship with our self and prepared us to make challenging decisions using Stop. Challenge. Choose?. Now that we are taking full responsibility for our health, it’s important to understand the dynamics of relationships and interactions with others as they play an important role in our well-being.
Here are some tips for optimizing our surroundings and improving our relationships:
- Take the high road. Our decision to respond in a rational way to someone’s behavior goes a long way in improving daily interactions. Use Stop. Challenge. Choose?, count to ten, or think about how our response can affect our health before responding.
- Avoid traps. Be mindful of friends and family members that have good intentions, but put us in a position that is not supportive of our health journey. For example, if our aunt makes her famous apple pie, it’s important for us to be prepared to explain why we are choosing not to eat pie. Those who are supportive of our health journey will understand, so we should surround our self with them!
- Utilize a support system. In addition to building and improving connections, a good support system can help us handle difficult situations, find resources, and motivate us to succeed. Reach out to loved ones, mentors, and a healthy community for support and advice on the journey to optimal health and well-being.
