Why do London school pupils significantly outperform the rest of the country?

In Inner London, 48% of underestimated pupils progress into higher education which is actually HIGHER than for ‘more-privileged’ pupils in any region outside of London. Note: In this context, ‘underestimated’ refers to those eligible for free school meals being from a low income household. The media refers to these groups as being disadvantaged or less-privileged.

Contrary to policy makers, civil servants and the media narrative the one standout fact driving London schools’ over-performance is that it is entirely due to ethnic composition.

Uncomfortable truths, uncomfortable reading — or as you often hear on the underground system in London: “Mind the Gap”. We have much work to do in levelling the playing field and to ensure that all our children achieve and progress.
