Why do life experiences turn us bitter? How can we avoid this and still remain good and become successful?

Honestly speaking, Sometimes I also get these bitter feelings too but I keep myself in line with suggestions and recommendations that I’ve given below.?

Based on my personal interactions I've seen sensitive, good, moral, decent and ethical people are becoming bitter because of their life experiences and think that their goodness has cost them a lot. Slowly they become bitter because of this or go into shelves or go into depression or become very hard in life losing their sensitivity and kindness. I’ve experienced this first hand in a few circumstances with people whom I’ve known from Years. Below are some of the points that I feel could be the reason:?Please add in comments if you feel their can be more.


  • They gave much more and received very less in a relationship . Be it a professional relationship or personal relationship.
  • Some unexpected event which took away their loved one’s, Seperation, untimely death or ? random situation came into their life which devastated their plan and they were left with to watch their wishes burned to ashes.?
  • Situation or People and life in general has been very unfair to them despite them doing their best.
  • Putting persistent efforts, doing all the hard work and putting their complete heart still led to negative results.?
  • Doing all the good and still bad happened and start questioning the Law of karma and general philosophies such “Do good for others and good happens to you”
  • Disappointed with Self on not achieving what they set out for in their professional and personal life despite their best efforts.?

All these are fair reasons to have bitterness and all the feelings that come with it? are fair enough and you have every right to feel them but it's important to make sure that these feelings don't make permanent home in your mind and heart.?

As an individual, this situation worries me because if good people start going bitter or start going into shelves or depression then this will impact our society very negatively.?

So I was thinking how we can overcome bitterness and still remain good and steadfast in our life’s journey. Below are some recommendations based on my own personal and professional experience which may help you to overcome such situations.

  • Accept Life is unfair and sometimes you have no option how things will unfold despite your best efforts in your professional and personal life.
  • Our power is in our response rather than controlling the events which are outside of our? control.
  • Forgive people and yourself to move past. Let go of situations and events that have hurt us in the past and not hold on to them. This can be done through healing and becoming self aware of your own thoughts and self care.?
  • Many times doing good may not result in good so you need to discern where to do good and where not to get involved.?
  • Engage in spirituality (does not matter which religion or faith you belong to ) . Engaging in spirituality gives you a lot of self awareness and will give you discernment on when to do good and stay away from situations that do not require our interventions.?
  • Build Strong self esteem and Self worth which does not require validations from others.?
  • This will help you not compare your life with others and allow you to find a way for your life to its best course.
  • Fight the battles that are required to be fought ethically, morally and lawfully.. ( As lord krishan told? Shri Arjun not to quit and fight for righteousness, sometimes we need to choose battles that are worth fighting)
  • Learn new skills- Read Psychology and Financial literature. These two things will help you navigate difficult situations in life and will provide you wisdom to overcome situations and help you become successful in life;?
