Why do I really feel uneasy when I read some LI Art discussions.
Over a period of months now, I have become much less accepting of some "advice" given in a couple of LI Art groups as I have found a great deal of this "advice" has been either illogical or worse, not based on fact or experience.
When one considers that when members actually ask a question, they are seeking advice based at least on some experience. It is sad to see that many of the responses are from people with absolutely no experience or knowledge of the question being asked yet for some strange reason feel obligated to write something, anything, just to have a presence.
That said, it is often encouraging to see just how many responses are given, The number of responses is an indication of at least an interest and often support which is commendable (even if many of them are of little use, or worse, could compound the issue at hand). However, quantity cannot take the place of quality.
Added to this I have found in one or two groups, the group manager is uninformed, inexperienced, often arrogantly so, and unwilling to be constructively corrected by those members with experience in particular issues raised within these groups. It becomes a power game. Sad really as ego has no place in helping someone.
So why am I writing this?
I suppose its a hope that others may read it and consider either posting a rebuke when they see a comment that is obviously ill-conceived or just simply wrong and not be afraid to do so, even if the owner or manager of the group is the one who is clearly wrong in their comments. We need people with knowledge and experience who are willing to impart that to others here. That is what will make the LI Art groups more successful and valuable resource to all members.

10 年as in all walks of life we are stuck with us and therefore the answer is always a reflection of us. I can't tell you how many people I've met that have no knowledge of art what so ever. I fucking give up on them. Besides what do any of us really know and how much of what we think we know is worth anything anyway.

10 年I am going to admit, I don't know anything. I am a competent, prolific, inspired and disciplined artist. That is all I know. I gave up on the business side. I will keep trying though. I am also very grateful when I meet people who know more than I and hope I come across many more in the future.

10 年I suppose that over the years I have become accustomed to a general ignorance of the historical pedigree of those systems / institutions that dominate the art world. As commented on before, I attribute it to the deteriorating quality of HIgher Education since the late 1980s. However, it appears that, a direct result, the need to offer a view has not diminished, but now encouraged by the narrow confines of personal practice now rated as academic at arts 'universities'. It is how it is so I welcome any view that lifts the discussion above myopic concerns, thanks Anthony for raising this.
