Why do I need to put effort into UX of my product when it works?

Let’s jump on a memory wagon, shall we?

It was the year?2007.

We were all in the expansionary rising period of the internet, and VR, AR, Robots, Siri, and the gang were only in sci-fi movies.

10 PM

Jessica, a young student is sitting in her dorm room, after a long day at the university. She is trying to find Mark, the cute guy from her class, in the sea of MySpace profiles.

Since she wants to make a good first impression after she sends him a message, she needs to put new makeup on her profile.

And that’s real trouble. Hours are passing, there are so many options she can choose from. What colors to use? What blocks to include?

Should she hide all the lame posts she put up a week ago? Should she put music to autoplay once someone visits her brand-new profile?

3 AM

Jessica’s profile is finally ready, after 5h of struggle. Now she just needs to find Mark’s profile and send him a message. Just.

4 AM

Jessica found one profile that might be Mark’s. It has only one image, but the data on the profile match what she knows about him, so she decides to give it a go.

After she clicks on the?send message?button and types in her message, click on the?send, there is not much more left to do than wait.

It is almost morning, and she just spent the whole night polishing up her profile.

Fast forward to June 2008

There is a new kid on the block, and he is so popular everybody wants to meet him. The Facebook.

A unified, easily accessible, and simple platform where in 2 clicks you are part of the network, you easily find all your friends and start chatting in no time.

No more time wasted on styling up your profile and hiding behind the usernames.

The impact and popularity skyrocketed, and your old friend MySpace, who you used to hang out with every day was completely shadowed.

The popular kid took over the popularity throne and we started to forget about the good ol’ days with MySpace.

WHY?

The?simplicity?that Facebook brought to the market made a huge difference. By the summer of 2009, it overtook MySpace in terms of user count, and it never stopped.

But, what REALLY killed MySpace?

A?bad?UX.

Ok, ok, we all know it wasn’t a thing and a term we used back in 2009,?but still.

The?purpose?was the?same?— connect with people.
The?execution?was completely?different. Simple vs Complex.

Of course, people were arguing and complaining about not being able to customize your profile, but that was the inability to adapt to a change in practice.

In the end, they joined the party too.

And MySpace? Well, we all know how they ended…

2022

It is the year 2022, and we still have the same problem.

In the past few years, there is dozens of new digital products published?daily.?The focus is on the release, getting early feedback (if you approach it smart), and publishing updates with improvements.

On the other hand, if you decide to go all-in, you spent months (or even years) working on the perfect version of your product, ready to market, which after release was a complete mishit.

Both cases are missing one key component — continuous UX.

In today's world, only products with exceptionally good UX, that are adapting continuously — can make it on the market.

A good UX is just that — good.

An?exceptional?UX will make you?stand?out?from the crowd.

What should I do then?

Jump on a boat before it is too late. Really.

There are a couple of options to choose from:

  • hire internally a UX designer to help you analyze and improve
  • hire a UX consultant to perform a UX audit and implement it internally
  • hire a UX agency focused entirely on the UX to be your partner in continuous UX
  • or?send me a DM?to book a 15min free consultation and I will help you decide what is the best next move.

What would happen if you don’t start working on the UX?

Maybe nothing, today. But in the foreseeable future, there might be a new competitor on the market whose only USP will be better UX, and you’re on your way down.

No one want’s that to happen, right?
