The name – as simple as it is, derives from the concept of getting into an elevator and filling the awkward silence between floors.
The truth is, in this day and age – apart from the fact that we have taught our own children to “not talk to strangers”, most folk in elevators are engaged with their phones, their music, and are possibly so “bogged down” in whatever it is they are doing that randomly pitching to a random stranger could come across as a little weird!
These days an elevator pitch would be used in networking environments where attendees have the opportunity to either introduce themselves to a group of people in an organised fashion, or in face to face environment, where you meet like-minded individuals.
Many people have an elevator pitch to do the THING it was intended to do which is “introduce yourself and your business to others. HOWEVER in this competitive world it needs to do more than that.
