WHY DO I NEED A MARKETER?

WHY DO I NEED A MARKETER?

(This is the second article in the series, How to hire marketers!)

As a leader, you have an idea, a thought, and a vision. It is clear in your mind. Another person cannot look into your brain.

Are you clear with your idea? Have you written it down so others can understand, comprehend, and act on it?

Do you have the heart and the mind to give space to another person to take your idea of growth and translate it their way?

Can you stop yourself from poking your nose into every activity and looking at hourly updates?

Do you have the Patience to wait for the pregnancy to take its own course?

And it will, as it is two strong individuals who have to agree on the Venn diagram common area to work together while acknowledging there are other ways to achieve the same growth. It is not one-way-or-the-highway!

?

If your answer is NO to any of the above questions, you are better off WITHOUT a marketer. Without clarity, if you proceed, it will only be a round-robin door of quality resources coming in and going out.

?

A CEO is a marketer.?

The company's first strategic marketer.?

The CEO then needs to groom/bring in another player to enable the CEO to focus on the larger picture.

?

In our quest for growth, we need marketing, which is the foundation of a company. Everyone in the company is a marketer working toward growth. Together.

And a strategic marketer brings them all together.

Assuming you're still with me, your ego permitting, write down why you want a marketer. What do you want her to do? What's the purpose??

?

If you start now saying I want a social media marketer, I will pour water on your head. I will find you. And I will pour (on) you.?

Social media is not a strategy. It is a tactic. This means there has to be somebody telling the social media person what to do, when, for how much, and why. Then that person does it. That's it.

When you're choosing a house, you don't start with "This is how my bedroom will look like." You begin with, "This is the land area that I have. What can I build on it? How can I build it- that is done by the architect. The plan is then given to a building contractor, who builds the house. How you want it internally comes only much later. Logical right?

Is it awareness? Is it more leads, sales, recall, or repeat purchases? Why? It cannot be everything if you and I are looking for specificity. One size does not fit all.

?

Why do I need a strategic marketer now?

Clarity. Communication. Translation. Execution.

?

  • What is the clear outcome I expect this marketer to deliver?
  • What is the time frame for this? Is this a feasible stretch target or just something that I, as the CEO, dreamt of?
  • What escalation routine will I set between me and the marketer, between my management team and this marketer?
  • How long a rope am I ready to allocate to this marketer?

?

Why is a marketer indispensable at this juncture of growth?

  1. Vision Translation: The CEO's vision, however grand, needs a voice, a form, and a strategy. A marketer translates abstract ideas into concrete strategies that resonate with your audience.?
  2. Market Alignment: Assumption clarifier, action taker, and market aligner - the path of a strategic marketer. Anticipating shifts, understanding trends, and aligning the company's offerings with the changing market and customer behaviour.?
  3. Strategic Cohesion: Every function within the company—from product development to sales—needs to pull in the same direction. The marketer ensures that all disparate actions converge into a concerted push toward growth.?
  4. Brand Building: Cut through the noisy world and make the brand stand out in a crowded marketplace. Visibility, Credibility, Loyalty, and transforming customers into advocates.?
  5. Driving Results: A strategic marketer sets measurable goals, tracks progress, and pivots strategies as needed. They ensure tangible outcomes, be it in terms of revenue, market share, or customer engagement.

Why hire a marketer??

The strategic importance of a marketer lies in their ability to translate visionary ideas into actionable, market-aligned strategies that propel the company forward.?

The right marketer can bridge the gap between a visionary CEO's aspirations and the company's tangible achievements, making them an indispensable asset in the journey toward growth.

The WISE CEO will hire the right candidate and GET OUT OF THE WAY!

SUMMARY:

Go back to the WHY. And if you are ready to bring on board a strategic marketer?

  1. Every employee is a marketer, Starting with the CEO.
  2. The CEO is the company's First Strategic Marketer.
  3. Strategic Marketers translate Vision into Action.
  4. Alignment and Patience are critically important.
  5. Distinguish between Strategy and Tactics.
