Tracking calories and macros may be something you hate or have no idea about, but to really kick start your fat loss journey you need to do it and below are some of my reasons why it's part of my process with my clients.
So why do we bother tracking them at all? Well, firstly calorie counting is simply a tool that helps you lose fat/weight by giving you an overview of what you eat and drink each day. This can help you identify eating patterns to modify, keeping you on track to reach your goals.
Some people have no idea what calories they are consuming when it comes to the daily intake of food and drinks, which means how do you know if you are overeating or under eating each day?
This is why I say to people, "if you are serious about your fat loss journey you will need to understand and learn about the number of calories in your current eating habits."
Other reasons why:
??Shock technique: It can really shock some people when they see the calories they consume as some foods have HUGE amounts of calories, yet others hardly anything.
??You make better choices: as you are tracking you will see what calories are in what foods allowing you to make better choices.
??Portion control: tracking calories will also allow you to have better portion control.
??Visualizing your goal: tracking your calories is a great way to visualize your goals each day, When your calorie intake is in your face, reality sets in. There is no running from it. If you are honest with yourself and your food journal, success will follow.
??It's free: To be able to adapt this into your journey knowing that it cost nothing and it will get you results is a win-win.
??Being honest: It allows you to be honest with yourself and what you eat, like making sure you add items like this too:
- Condiments and dressings
- Coffee creamer
- Dips
- Dried fruits and nuts
- Butter and spreads
- Shredded and grated cheese
- Whipped cream
- Juice, Beer, wine, and other alcoholic drinks
I also get asked, how long should I track calories for? With some of my clients, I only do it for a short period at the beginning of their journey, wherewith other clients they don't mind it so we continue to use it as it gives us great weekly data, which allows us to make small changes which overall keeps us on track.
Overall tracking calories has HUGE benefits when you break it done and this is why if you are serious about your fat loss/weight loss journey you need to do it.
So even if you hate it give it a chance and watch how you achieve your goals and in the process learn about your eating habits.
