The increasing need to monetise archive content, the risk of cyberattacks, the rise of working from anywhere, and the switch to UHD have placed enormous strain on legacy archive and production platforms at broadcasters and post production facilities around the globe.

To safeguard your assets, businesses should look for a solution that meets a high level of digital content governance and hacker prevention protocols. It must also be simple to share and find content. A crucial component of this new generation of content creation is metadata.

What are your options?

Production facilities have to rely on production storage. Quite often they have no choice in the matter. An alternative option is to use dumb disc, but that comes with its own difficulties. As it often doesn’t work well with expensive public cloud platforms or in an?Avid?Media Central | Production Management environment.

Administrators have to ensure content is accessible for Avid Media Central | Production Management users at all times. The biggest challenge is doing this whilst managing it across multiple tiers of storage and remote locations. Making content available in multiple locations and ensuring it is protected from accidental or malicious deletion are also big challenges.

Since 2009, many of our customers have been using Object Matrix’s?MatrixStore object storage?in Avid workflows. We have been continuously developing and integrating workflows to safeguard our clients’ content from ingest to nearline, archive, and disaster recovery. This gives them the choice of putting their media content on the platforms that are most suitable for their business needs.

For asset management in production workflows, the majority of our Avid customers use the artist, formerly known as Interplay PAM. In 2009, we built the?Interconnect application. This enables users to manually or automatically backup or archive assets, including metadata and folder structures, to MatrixStore object storage.

Broadcasters and post-production facilities all over the world have adopted MatrixStore and InterConnect. It is a secure, economical, and dependable nearline platform that enhances their current infrastructure. Their content is future-proof, searchable and accessible to other teams or workflows in a non-proprietary way.

This means users have?access?to their content, from?anywhere, at?any time. This also makes content sharing possible too.

Workflow Demonstration

The following diagram demonstrates what a storage workflow integration looks like when using both MatrixStore and Interconnect with Avid.

Your media content is parked to a local MatrixStore on-prem object storage cluster. This happens before it is replicated to an offsite location for sharing and business continuity purposes. You also have the option of adding your content into your cloud bucket of choice too.

We have a number of customers using MatrixStore object storage in their Avid Media Central MAM workflows. This can be done either as an archive destination, protecting and serve up proxies for browsing. Or as a hybrid cloud archive, keeping all archive content on-prem with a synchronised copy in the cloud.

Many broadcasters who currently use Avid for content production will also have?Telestream Diva?manage their LTO infrastructure. Customers now have the option to simply move their content from LTO to MatrixStore (on-prem, cloud, or hybrid). This is a result of our most recent integration with Connect Diva and our S3 interface.
