Why do Doctors have Bad Handwriting?
Doctors have bad handwriting for many reasons, including the amount of time they have to write and the amount of information they have to convey. Doctors are also busy people, which means they're often writing in a hurry.
In addition to limited time and room on the chart, doctors are also expected to convey a lot of information in their handwriting. It's not just the patient's name and the date—doctors must also include what tests were performed on the patient, what medications were prescribed, and any allergies or other relevant information about the patient's medical history. This can lead to a lot of scribbles that might be hard for anyone else to read.
When a doctor writes down information about a patient's medical history, he or she is using it as shorthand for how to diagnose and treat that person. According to an article in the National Medical Journal of India ‘Bad handwriting by doctors is responsible for 7000 deaths every year.'
The most likely reason doctors have bad handwriting is because they write fast. That's what a lot of doctors do—they take notes on the go and scribble just fast enough to keep up with their patient's complaints. We're not saying that it's right to have sloppy handwriting, but we can understand why it happens.

2 年Isn't the expectation on doctors too much to write beautiful handwritten prescription, when patient thinks that doctor will touch their hands, put stethoscope, check their throat/eyes , discuss the issues in detail, apply their judgement for remedy, educate patient , explain the diagnosis and treatment plan... all of this for 60-80 patients in just 6-8 hrs... Can tech solve this ???
