Why Do Americans Hate Their Jobs? // Future Work #91

I remember moving to the US and being shocked by how different the workplace was from that in Europe.

The 'all in' mentality was fun but I could also see how it would be very taxing. Recent data shows that US employee engagement has been at its lowest level in 11 years.

Inspired by Molly Lipson 's Business Insider article "Why so many Americans hate their jobs ," I took a look at the data to find out:

  • Lack of purpose: Only 50% feel their job contributes meaningfully to the world
  • Poor management: Ineffective leadership and limited opportunities for input
  • Mistrust between employers and employees
  • Insufficient pay and growth options
  • Work-life balance issues, exacerbated by return-to-office mandates

And, of course, I'm curious: what do you dislike most about your job?

With insights from Jim Harter , Jamie Ballard , Annie Dean , Amy Leschke-Kahle , Juliana Horowitz , Kim Parker , Josh Bersin , and Matthew Boyle .
