?? Why do 90% of solopreneurs fail to attract their dream customers

?? Why do 90% of solopreneurs fail to attract their dream customers

?? We need to know who we want to work with and who wants to work with us.

Person diving into lake to find her people

Traditional ways of figuring this out are designed for businesses, not solopreneurs.?

Complex brand chart

But, we must persist and find our niche, as solopreneurs who don’t find a specific market suffer for years.

? Lack of clarity leads to attracting the wrong clients

? Not knowing who you want fragments energy and focus

/? Working with the wrong people will crush your spirit

?? Solopreneurs, unlike companies discover a niche by finding themselves first and then their market. ??

I find myself starting to care more

Companies begin with the market and use complex positioning, persona, and segmentation approaches to niche their product with a specific, defined avatar.?

Solopreneurs who follow the tried and true method fail to succeed.

Here's the core of what I'm saying.

?? Figure out if you want to help people feel safe, belong, take risks, or gain independence

?? Identify the specific desire, pain, and outcome within that grouping that you impact

???Discover your core principles and values and who shares them

???Map out your major interests and find people who share them

?? Create your stories that pull together all these elements

When awakened, what is already inside you when discovered leads to an ideal market and dream customer for solopreneurs.?

Man looking at blackboard trying to identify his interests.

Getting that right leads to building a group of people around you that wants you to fulfill a specific desire, pain, and result shared by all of them.?

Solopreneur Inc. started as Revenue Climber.

Despite tons of activity, false starts, and limited success the concept failed.

It's not failure, it's unfinished success

Why?

The lack of insight into why I’m here, who I impact, and what they get from me.

I’d done the work.

Big guy saying you're doing amazing

  1. Knew my purpose and purpose impact
  2. Identified the demographics and psychographics of my market
  3. Created compelling storylines, and a well-attended event

Isn’t that enough?

No.

I do what I do

I lacked clarity on how I impact people without thinking too hard about it.

Once I got there life changed.

I found my ideal market.

?? Solopreneurs who desire to master self-employment and want to take the necessary risks to succeed

?? Self-employed experts not willing to run in place on a hamster wheel, and who will do what it takes to stop

?? Achievement-oriented solopreneurs that want to take charge of their situation and get lasting permanent results

Traditional positioning and segmentation exercises did not deliver this clarity.

The power came from internal exploration, took one hour to complete, and permanently changed my thoughts and work.?

dog exploring

Here's an example of how this works in the real world.

"The solopreneur approach to understanding my impact on the world works. I realized that my natural tendency to create a space of belonging for regular folks who need community makes me a leader. I hadn’t realized that it was possible for me to bring my perspective to the market in this way.? The idea of being front-and-center, having to take the stage, be it a business meeting, pitch, theatrical performance, speech, sales call, or any other engagement, interaction, or moment that calls for a certain level of animation, energy, enlivenment, or entertainment IS AN INCREDIBLY UNPLEASANT THOUGHT. Knowing that being myself rather than creating a fake influencer persona changed everything.” - Joi Brooks

Borat saying great success

Joi’s market changed from a “rich niche” to mine to a tribe that shares a desire to belong, overcome isolation, and want community.?

It's quite simple when you think about it, and the results of this approach are powerful.

???Know who you are, why it matters, and your impact on other people

?? Get in front of the type of people that you really want to work with and who can afford your service

?? Only sign the clients that you want to work with and not those who drain you

Helping Remarkable Corporate Experts Become Remarkable Independent Consultants

Larry, you've really hit on a core challenge and a missing step here. I work with solo consultants and they almost universally struggle with defining and focusing on a very specific target market, which is critical for all the reasons you outline. What's nearly always missing is exploring the emotional connection. As you put it "The lack of insight into why I’m here, who I impact, and what they get from me." Answering that quickly leads to clarity and all the wonderful things about building our own practices.

I suffer from the "help everyone" syndrome. I like the reframe of who can I help best - and isn't getting my best because I'm spread too thin/unfocused.
