Why Diversification Is the Key to Thriving in Social Media Chaos

How to Adapt and Stay Ahead in a Rapidly Changing Digital World

This weekend has been wild in the social media world. With so much happening, I feel like it’s the perfect time to share some thoughts about social media platforms and strategy. If you use social media to drive sales, bookings, or other business goals, this post is for you.

Why Diversification Is a Must

I’ve always said diversifying your platforms is important, but in the past few weeks, this has become absolutely critical. Political shifts, global changes, and the rapid rise of AI are making the social media landscape feel like quicksand. If you’re putting all your eggs in one basket, it’s time to rethink things.

Practical Social Media Strategies to Keep You Ahead:

  1. Think Beyond Meta Sure, Facebook and Instagram are staples, but relying too heavily on Meta’s platforms can put your strategy at risk. This includes Threads too. I see more businesses deciding to add Threads instead of looking beyond Meta. Start exploring other options to make sure you’re not left scrambling if things shift overnight. It can and will.
  2. Show Up on LinkedIn LinkedIn is the perfect place to be both professional and real. Yes, those two can coexist. It is 2025. Being consistent and authentic here builds trust and shows your audience you’re the real deal and what you have to offer is relevant, important, and valuable.
  3. Email Is King Your email list is your goldmine. It should always be your top priority. Use social media to grow that list, but make sure you’re also nurturing the people who already subscribe. Social platforms might come and go, but your email list is yours to keep. Don’t make the mistake of having ChatGPT write all your emails either. It is so obvious, and people will lose confidence. It’s fine to use AI to correct a draft and help you clean up your work, but don’t let that become your voice.
  4. Don’t Sleep on Pinterest Pinterest might not be the first platform you think of, but it’s a secret weapon, especially for visually-driven industries like wine, travel, and education. It’s an incredible way to get your brand out there and drive traffic. If you aren’t sure how to begin here, send me a message and we can brainstorm.
  5. Tread Lightly on New Platforms Threads and other trendy platforms are tempting, but don’t go all in too soon. Spreading yourself too thin or relying on something untested is a recipe for frustration. Keep your efforts balanced and diversified.
  6. Focus on What You Can Control With debates like TikTok bans making headlines, it’s easy to get caught up in the noise. My advice? Keep your head down and focus on what you can control. That’s where your energy is best spent.

A Quick Lesson from the Wine World

Think about this: if you were a winemaker and 80-100% of your wines were exported, ignoring your domestic market, geopolitical changes or market trends in other countries could leave you in a tough spot. Social media marketing works the same way—diversify your efforts to stay protected no matter what comes your way.

Final Thoughts

Social media changes fast, and keeping up can feel overwhelming. But by diversifying your platforms, prioritizing email marketing, and focusing on what matters most, you can create a strategy that’s built to last.
