There's been some pretty juicy marketing drama this week...
So quick summary...Social Chain (social media agency founded by Steven Bartlett) sold for £7.7 million this week.
This caused a bit of uproar on social media as Steven had apparently previously claimed it was worth '£300 million'.
This Twitter thread by Timothy Armoo does a good job of breaking down the story. It's also worth reading Steven's post on the topic to hear his side of the story.
Clever marketing/positioning? Or unethical lies? What do you think?

Thought for the day: Most LinkedIn Outreach SUCKS but we've found an approach that works AND it doesn't make people on LinkedIn hate you...
"I'm looking to connect & network with likeminded individuals"
Translation: "Connect with me so I can pitch slap you in the face, you gullible LinkedIn dweeb".
I know this is an extreme example, but...kinda true.
How much ‘outreach’ do you do on LinkedIn to drive new business?
I’ll be honest, historically I haven’t been a fan of outreach after getting so many of the above messages that turned out to be sales pitches.
But last year I wanted to try a bit of an experiment to see if there was a better way of doing outreach that wasn’t spammy & annoying.
I devised a bit of an outreach strategy to identify people who had shown signs they were interested in what we do & were the perfect fit for us to support with their Marketing.
And would then send direct videos to people I thought we could genuinely help.
This targeted approach has been really successful.
We recently landed a project for a household-name brand through this outreach strategy.
What is the strategy?
We reveal all in this podcast episode (using a live example).
Happy Friday!! ??

2 年Ha ha, thanks for the info, I did wonder about it being sold for £7M. I first heard of Steven Bartlett when he followed then unfollowed me on Twitter as he grew his brand in the early days. Never been a fan of this but I became a bit of a fan of Steven because I liked some of the things he spoke about. But his Dragons' Den appearances have been a bit cringe
