Why Did I Let It Get This Bad?

Hi There!
We humans are wired for the familiar.
When things slowly decline over time, it's hard for us to notice and very hard to take action because, frankly, we are used to it that way.
Often, we don't make changes until they are uncomfortable, overwhelmed, or can't keep going like before.
And I'm no exception.
I don't know how long it has been going on, but my eyesight has worsened. I didn't realize I was struggling to read until one night while reading in bed, I said to my husband, "Oh no! My book is messed up! I think the printer must have misprinted these pages! Look at this!" and proceeded to show him the unreadable page.
He smiled, "No, Babe. It isn't the printer. You need glasses."
Ummm. Rude.
Over the next week, I started paying attention to all the times I was squinting, mistyping on my phone, and just tolerating the blur of the up-close world.
When I finally went to see an eye doctor, got my first pair of glasses, and the world was clear again, I was dumbfounded. Why did I let it get this bad?
Can you relate?
You might finally get sick of staying up late to enjoy a little time for yourself but then suffer through the next day exhausted and sleepy.

Or it might be that you've been receiving excellent performance reviews for a couple of years but have not received a promotion or raise.
Or maybe you've had a nagging feeling that you are meant to live a more simple, authentic, and vibrant life but haven’t made any steps towards it.
That, my friends, is one of the gifts of being uncomfortable. When we get honest with ourselves about what doesn't feel right, we can finally DO SOMETHING about it.
But first, we have to be honest with ourselves.
I am literally seeing so much clearer now.??? I’ve started knitting.??? I’m reading more comfortably.??? I am getting used to wearing glasses and in the process, compassionately reminding myself that I don’t have to let things get “bad” before I start making positive changes.???
If you'd like a safe space to get real about what isn't working and what is going well, grab some time on my calendar. Let’s chat in a free Discovery Session to explore what you need to stop tolerating so you can begin taking the first steps towards the life you desire.

2 周What a relatable tale. So often we can't see what's right in front of us - literally and figuratively! This is what it was like changing jobs for me over the past 5 years. I didn't see it until I was waaaay past the point of loving my job anymore.

3 周So beautifully said! This happens all too often, and this is a good reminder to get curious about the things that don't feel right. Thank you for sharing your experience! And your glasses are awesome!
