Why did this $3B UBS veteran leave after years of thinking it was the best place for him?

Why did this $3B UBS veteran leave after years of thinking it was the best place for him?

Whenever a big team makes a move, there are plenty of lessons to be learned.

And here’s why this one might interest you—even if this advisor’s business size and makeup differ from yours.

Because – particularly in recent years – the advisors and teams we’ve helped transition often share common concerns around life at their firms…

  • The increasing bureaucracy.
  • The decreasing support from the firm.
  • The difficulties in getting work done for clients.
  • The limitations on products and solutions.
  • The inability to market to clients and prospects with creativity and a unique voice.

Ghislain Gouraige was a self-proclaimed “UBS culture carrier”—an esteemed leader of the firm’s Private Wealth Advisory Council with a line to the top of the house.

In his own words, Ghislain was the guy who was “certain” that he had everything he needed to run the best business possible—and he couldn’t even imagine that there might be something better out there.

In truth, having built a $3B practice, it might seem like he had no reason to consider it any other way.

But after a conversation with former UBS colleague Rob Sechan, Ghislain, as he put it,?“started paying attention.”

That’s a common response among top advisors: When a respected and like-minded colleague makes a move, they suddenly begin to question everything.

Ghislain thought he had access to all he needed, but it turns out that the “curated open architecture” available at UBS wasn’t nearly as comprehensive as it could be for his ultra-high net worth clients’ needs.

Outside of the wirehouse, he could better serve clients, access products that were off-limits, market freely to prospects…and much more.

Listen in?to this week’s?featured podcast episode?to learn what sparked Ghislain and led him to share that?“You can’t unsee what you’ve seen.”?And hear more about his journey to NewEdge Wealth, what his business life is like today, and much more.

Plus, this week’s?featured learning tool?offers an easy-to-read yet in-depth view of the independent landscape. You can?download it here.
