Why Do Details Matter?

Walt Disney was quoted as saying, “There’s no magic in magic. It’s all in the details.” Spending time and focus on details has become more and more important in my career and life. I’m still amazed how you see a project sheet or Gant chart completely filled out, yet why do so many projects fail? Details seemed to be spelled out, right? Well, sometimes we aren’t thorough enough in certain areas and that can compromise everything.   

When we think about details, one way to personalize it is to look at gifts you have either received or given. The gifts with the greatest impact are typically those small, thoughtful gifts that maybe somebody remembered you wanted, or something in the past that was meaningful to you. Those are details - Thoughtful and thorough. How are you approaching your job or project? Sometimes we find ourselves skimming the surface on things and we miss key things. As we begin to really dive into details, be curious, ask questions, be thorough, and accurate on everything – especially the small things. When you focus your attention and time there, success will be at hand!
