Why Cybersecurity SMEs are Saying "Habibi, Come to Dubai!" ??? ????

Hello GISEC Decoders! ??

Did you know that the UAE is fast becoming the go-to hotspot for cybersecurity startups and SMEs? It’s true! The UAE’s tech-forward environment, commitment to innovation, and supportive policies are drawing cybersecurity businesses from around the globe. In fact, cybersecurity companies are seeing Dubai and Abu Dhabi as the places to be if you want to scale, thrive, and innovate in a dynamic market.

So... What’s Making the UAE So Attractive?

The UAE’s approach is simple yet powerful: foster growth, invest in infrastructure and invite the best and brightest. With initiatives like the National Cybersecurity Strategy, the UAE has committed to building a resilient digital environment and positioning itself as a top choice for cybersecurity investments. And it’s working! According to Gulf Business, the UAE is now considered a premier hub for cybersecurity SMEs in the region, attracting new players ready to tackle the ever-growing digital threat landscape.

The Need for Cybersecurity in the UAE—By the Numbers ??

According to the 2024 State of the UAE Cybersecurity Report, the Emirates’ rapid digital transformation has increased its vulnerability to cyberattacks, including ransomware incidents and distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks (AGBI). The UAE has now become the most targeted country for ransomware attacks in the GCC, with hackers particularly focused on high-value sectors like finance, healthcare, and energy. This rising level of threat underscores the urgent need for robust cybersecurity defenses as well as innovative solutions.

Looking forward, spending on security products and services in the Middle East and Africa (MEA), excluding Israel, is expected to grow 10.3% year-on-year in 2024 to reach $6.2 billion, according to the latest Worldwide Security Spending Guide from International Data Corporation (IDC). This growing demand offers cybersecurity SMEs an unparalleled opportunity to expand and innovate in the region.

New Government Policies to Strengthen Cybersecurity ??

H.E. Dr. Mohammed Hamad Al Kuwaiti, Chairman of the UAE Cybersecurity Council, recently announced that the council is working on developing three new policies aimed at supporting the country’s cybersecurity infrastructure by the end of 2024.

These upcoming policies will address cloud computing and data security, Internet of Things (IoT) security, and cybersecurity operations centres. These initiatives are designed to solidify the UAE’s position as a global leader in advanced technology and artificial intelligence (AI), bolstering the ecosystem that cybersecurity SMEs rely on to thrive (WAM).

Investment in Digital Infrastructure ??

One of the UAE’s major draws is its world-class digital infrastructure. The government has invested billions in smart city technology, high-speed networks, and data centers, making it a playground for tech-savvy startups. This environment is perfect for cybersecurity SMEs that rely on robust, scalable infrastructure to deliver security solutions. With ongoing investments in sectors like telecom and smart infrastructure, the UAE has created a tech ecosystem that supports innovation at every turn.

A Thriving, Collaborative Cybersecurity Ecosystem ??

The UAE’s cybersecurity ecosystem isn’t just about infrastructure and policies—it’s about community. The government encourages collaboration between public and private sectors, bringing together industry leaders, startups, and international partners. Events like GISEC North Star, held in collaboration with Expand North Star—the world’s largest startup and investor connector event—further amplify this focus on innovation. This partnership will enhance cybersecurity opportunities within the broader startup ecosystem, driving impactful engagement and creating pathways for startups and industry leaders alike.

Ready to Join the UAE’s Cybersecurity Boom?

The UAE’s journey to becoming a cybersecurity hub is just beginning, and GISEC Global 2025 is the place to experience it firsthand. From 6-8 May 2025, this leading cybersecurity event will bring together top industry leaders, cutting-edge solutions, and innovative startups—all under one roof at the Dubai World Trade Centre.

This year’s GISEC North Star feature, in collaboration with Expand North Star, will further amplify opportunities for startups and investors, offering a dedicated platform for emerging cybersecurity players within the broader tech ecosystem.
