Why CXO's health is at risk?

Why CXO's health is at risk?

World is witnessing lots of myths towards health, and the higher executives are more prone to disorders for a myriad of reasons. Bi-Proficiency is a campaign to bridge the gaps and fix all the loopholes in this regard.

With this newsletter, we aim to make executives aware of what they are losing, what must be done, and in which way! Wishing you a perfect pink of health and a happy reading as well!

You had a vision… you worked hard for it…And you got the executive’s position!

Now the world seems easier and you just have to execute the responsibilities and reap the benefits of all those years of sleepless nights!

Now let’s have a look at the responsibilities.

The position is directly related to lots of travelling. Most of the CEOs are up in the air, going through time zones, and always on the run. Most of the time is spent in meetings and there is always a lot of food! And you can’t always have healthier choices.

The job is hard when you are fit and is doubly hard when you are fatigued!

Being a higher executive now holds much more pressure than it used to be a decade back. You are always under the scrutiny and have to keep a track of a lot of things; this dictates your life.?

And here lies the biggest challenge of focussing on health.

Dr. Walter Gaman, who authored Stay Young: 10 Proven Steps to Ultimate Health, and is a practicing physician at Executive Medicine of Texas, says that 90% of his patients are corporate executives.

He also remarked that as per his analysis a key stress source for the executives is isolation. Whether it is an easier one they are required to make it alone, or it requires being hard-bitten & pugnacious then also you are all alone, also being responsible for the repercussions.

Also, the lifestyle can conspire against health because business meals are scrumptiously sumptuous! High fats, more sodium, and a generous amount of alcohol can lead to higher cardiovascular disorders and diabetes as well.

For the time constraints, exercising is mostly dumped down the list of priorities.?

Therefore, we all are subjected to the same source of illness and soon succumb to the disorders. People running the corporations also have an added risk of being highly stressed.

Time zone differences and work patterns also lead to unhealthy sleep patterns- another stress factor.?

A Different Perspective

In our previous letter, CXO’s Fitness in the Post-Pandemic World, we discussed how materialism has overvalued everything, and now everyone has a perspective to look at things & actions based on remuneration.

The sole aim is either to earn more or to meet the target directly or indirectly related to earnings!

There is a flood of content misinterpreting the real meaning of Pushing the Limits and leaving the comfort zone. Being brainwashed and guilt-smitten for not doing as much as others are doing, people start to ignore everything else and put more effort at work.

See, on the deathbed, no one ever said, “Wished I had worked more”!

That time or after losing health completely everyone realizes what they have lost, which is something of pivotal importance.

People have correlated physical activities and fitness consciousness solely with physiological factors. They have started ignoring the psychological and mentally-relaxing aspects associated.

The mental wellness and the psychological advantage associated with physical activities can work wonders for your business as well, in the long run.

Just imagine, if physical health was directly related to your net worth and absence would result in an immediate loss- would you ever dare to miss any session?

If the corporate world had a rule that missing the running or cardio session would make you fail close 3 deals, or ignoring a knee injury would result in 10% lesser equity- would you have ever ignored these things?

You believe it or not but in a long run these things are not imaginary but a bitter reality!

Running & Intense cardio sessions not only enhance energy levels but also make you much more confident. With these two things, you can make many more deals (which are left unclosed in the absence. Having health issues or injuries greatly hamper your productivity and taking conscious care would have enhanced your overall equity!

Winding Up?

Majority of executives are doing desk job and have a sedentary lifestyle. As per Mayo Clinic Data 73% CEOs have a sedentary lifestyle, and 40% are obese- a risk factor for many diseases.

Moreover, this digital era knows no work hours and round the clock, you are only working.

The need is to focus on two things- First is your meals and second is being involved in intense physical activities.

Just because you are an executive that doesn’t mean you must be an unhealthy person. Medical Practitioners sometimes glamorize the lifestyle disorders being related to an affluent elite class. But this is neither the case nor it must be like this.??

Firstly one must cognize of the multi-faceted harms associated and be proactive towards your health.

Stay tuned for the specific researches in the realms of health & fitness for the executives.?

Thank you Jaideep Parashar for bringing more awareness on this. It is very true that C-suite executives end up dumping exercise and fitness as the least important priority.
