The title is misleading - call it click bait. It's not actually a matter of being afraid as much as it is a matter of not prioritizing employee happiness or simply, pardon my french, not giving a crap about it.
No business can survive without profit. It it what it is and we might as well make it clear.
That being said, profit > happiness, right?
Not necessarily. You see, happy people, happy employees, engaged and satisfied employees, are actually more productive, feel more connected with their job and therefore are more eager to actively participate and contribute to the companies' goals.
In a well managed business, achieving goals = more profit.
So why would we disconsider the importance of employee happiness?

Well, first of all, happiness is a vague and abstract concept. It looks different from person to person, so how to achieve it on a large scale?
Then you have to consider that sometimes the nature of the business or market can lead companies to take actions that are necessary but can clash with the idea of employee happiness.
For example, a company may need to downsize, restructure, or implement cost-cutting measures to stay competitive, which can lead to layoffs or reduced benefits, both of which can negatively impact employee happiness. Additionally, some jobs may be inherently stressful or dangerous, making it challenging to promote happiness in those roles.
So, the bottom line is that while achieving happiness for all employees may not always be possible, it's crucial for companies to recognize its importance and take steps to promote well-being whenever possible. A lot of big successful companies have entire departments dedicated to it - I'm looking at you Adobe!
Because let's face it, a miserable workforce is about as productive as a sloth on a Monday morning. So, let's prioritize employee happiness and watch those profits roll in!
