Why Core Values Matter!

Supporting businesses & their Directors to be empowered, resilient, confident leaders | Transforming Boardroom Dynamics so no body armour is required! | 25-Years Army to Lt Col
Ever wondered why some people seem to navigate life's storms with unwavering confidence??
The secret often lies in their core values.?
These are the principles that guide our behaviour, decisions, and actions, especially when the going gets tough.?
They serve as our North Star ??, helping us stay true to ourselves and fostering resilience.
Core values are our top 3 values that never change throughout our life.... no matter what our situation or circumstance.
They are the values from which the other values derive.
They create meaning to our lives as children, although we are likely to articulate them differently in adulthood.
For example a child can show that they have a core value of 'justice' by standing up for a friend in the play ground when another child is being 'mean'.
In today's fast-paced world, anchoring ourselves in core values is more crucial than ever, especially as change is constant and challenges are inevitable.
As leaders, it's essential to have a clear set of values that remain steadfast, no matter the situation.
My Core Values: Integrity, Connection, and Justice
My core values are integrity, connection, and justice. These aren't just words; they are the foundation of everything I do.
Integrity means doing what I say I will do, with honesty and authenticity. It's about being the same person when no one is watching.
Connection is all about building meaningful relationships and collaborations. It's about fostering a sense of community and belonging.
Justice drives me to fight for fairness and equality. It fuels my mission to end workplace toxicity and advocate for those who might not have a voice.
Building a Business on Core Values
How can we ever build a business without integrity?!?
How can we create meaningful relationships and collaborations without a deep sense of connection??
And how can we pursue our mission without a commitment to justice??
These values are not just abstract concepts; they are practical guides that shape our daily actions and long-term strategies.
For instance, during my time in the Army, I was passionate about ensuring nurses received the same opportunities for PhDs as doctors.?
This wasn't just a professional goal; it was a matter of justice.?
Years later, it became a routine practice for nurses to be funded annually.
This experience reinforced my belief in the power of core values to drive meaningful change.
To my shock I was recognised for the legacy I had created, yet I had never seen it as a legacy, merely fighting a situation that I felt had to change!
Steps to Define and Live Your Core Values
Here are a few steps to help you start defining and living your core values:
By embedding your values in every part of your being, you not only inspire those around you but also cultivate a resilient mindset that turns challenges into opportunities for growth.
I encourage you to clearly define your values.?
They are already embedded in every part of your being. Once you are clear, your previous actions and behaviours in certain situations will make complete sense.
Let's cultivate a resilient mindset that not only survives but thrives in the face of adversity.?
Together, we can build a future where resilience is not just a skill but a way of life. ?????

8 个月Your insights are very helpful. Growing up, our core values were never clearly explained to us. However, looking back, I realise that whenever I truly listened to myself and stayed true to my beliefs, I was acting with integrity. Sometimes, what we stand for can be misunderstood and labeled negatively, but it's important to remain true to ourselves.
